Evergreen Lake Construction Trail Detour

Evergreen Lake Construction Project

The Evergreen Lake North Trail Project was initiated in response to the Spring 2016 closure of the trail along CO 74 on the north side of Evergreen Lake between Upper Bear Creek Road and Evergreen Dam. Its main objective is to establish a multimodal transportation system that enhances bike and pedestrian facilities and resolves pressing drainage and stability concerns. This critical trail linkage is located adjacent to CO 74 on the north side of Evergreen Lake in Evergreen, Colorado.

Why The Evergreen Lake Project is Needed

The Evergreen Lake Project aims to widen the trail to meet AASHTO criteria for shared use paths, enhance fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities, and improve drainage and bank stabilization. The ultimate goal is to work collaboratively with the community, stakeholders, and funders to create a long-term solution for the Evergreen Lake North Trail, thereby enhancing safety, accessibility, and connectivity in the region.

Evergreen Park and Rec District Involvement

The Evergreen Park & Recreation District (EPRD) leads this seven-year, multi-agency effort, with ESCO Construction of Evergreen as the primary contractor. The project is primarily funded through grants and contributions from various organizations, including Denver Regional Council of Governments, Jefferson County Open Space, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Evergreen Metropolitan District, CDOT, Great Outdoors Colorado, Colorado Department of Local Affairs, Evergreen Legacy Fund, and EPRD. Federal, state, and grant funding accounts for about 91% of the construction project budget. The project appreciates the support of its many partners, funders, stakeholders, and the Evergreen community.

What are the Dates of The Evergreen Lake Construction Project?

Construction is scheduled to begin in mid- to late-April 2023 and expected to continue until Fall 2023, with working hours from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. As the project is located near the lake’s edge, road and retaining wall improvements will be made, with CO 74 reduced to a single eastbound lane only between Upper Bear Creek Road and the JC-73 intersection. Westbound traffic will be detoured via Meadow Drive, and the Evergreen Lake North Trail will be closed for pedestrians during construction. A trail detour will be provided around the south and west sides of Evergreen Lake.
