Does Jefferson County require inspections of the septic tanks?
on: October 11, 2013, 17:15

Hi! Could someone confirm that Jefferson does require a septic tank be inspected prior to a closing of a sale? My real estate agent mentioned something about that but I don't see it in the contract. I would just like to know if we need to inspect it and who pays for the inspection.

Hey Jennifer!

Yes Jefferson County does require a use permit. In Jefferson County Colorado A use permit must be obtained before the transfer of property. A use permit is a document issued by Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment it provides information about installation and operation of the properties septic systems.

You get your Jefferson County use permit by having the system pumped and inspected by any Jefferson county certified inspector. These inspectors and pumpers must be certified by national professional associations or the Colorado state licensing board for professional engineers.

Pumping and inspection should cost anywhere from $400 to $550. The inspection and pumping information is then sent to the Jefferson County Health Department. There is a $75 filing fee. It takes between 7-10 days to then get your use permit.

Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment (303) 271-5759

Hope that helps have a good day!
