"Hey Call My Cousin He's A Real Estate Agent"
These days it seems like everyone is a real estate agent. Everyone has a cousin, brother, mother or nephew twice removed that is a Realtor. You can’t throw a stick in the Denver Foothills without hitting a real estate broker. They come in all shapes, sizes and backgrounds. Some there are part time, full time, agents that only work from 9 to 3 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There are luxury real estate agents and ones that only sell time shares. To make in informed decision in always difficult. You always need a lot of data to make your choices in life. Unfortunately sometimes when you have too much data it makes the choice harder and not easier. Picking the best real estate agent is no different. It seems like at least once a week there is someone on a local Facebook page asking for recommendations for a local Realtor. There are literally hundreds of people that post the “best real estate agent” in the world. This adds to the frustration of selecting a listings agent or a buyer agent to work with in your real estate transaction. There are a few things to consider when doing research on your own. Take other peoples advice but also do due diligence so you can make an informed choice.
One thing that a consumer needs to know is that any online review can be bought, faked or just an old employee or someone trying to hurt the business owner or one of the employees. One time some jerk on Facebook wrote a review about me because he disagreed with one of my posts I shared. There was also an employee I had to fire that did the same thing. Luckily both posts have been removed and I have 5 stars on every review site. It is something to consider when deciding how much merit to put into online reviews. It truly is a shame that trolls and angry employees have degraded the validity of online reviews because it is a good concept but not really practical. Just like there can be fake negative reviews but there are also companies that a real estate agent (or any company) can purchase good reviews. Some studies have determined that up to 60% of all online reviews are fake or not even written by customers or clients of company being reviewed.
It's Important to Choose a Real Estate Agent You Like and Can Work With
One of the most important things when choosing your Realtor is the ability to not only respect your agent because they will be advising you on things you may disagree with but you will need to face a harsh reality that you need to at least consider their advise. When you are interviewing buyer or listing agents you need to know you will be spending a great amount of time with them. You will be spending a lot of your Saturdays and Sundays looking at homes or talking to them all the time to get feedback from them about potential buyers waling through your home. I am a firm believer in choosing an agent who works for you and with you. Don’t choose an agent based solely on experience. Although it’s good to have, it’s not everything. You will be spending a lot of time with that agent and you need to mesh. Choose someone friendly and real. Choose for you, not for the house. Choose someone good at talking and negotiating
